A Yoga Retreat
Families are welcome. Although this program is suitable for all skill levels and ages, some prior practice of yoga is helpful. The program will include yoga classes for any children who do attend. If children cannot or wish not to participate, however, their parents are responsible for their supervision.
July 24–29 (Saturday dinner – Thursday lunch) This yoga program focuses on developing a yoga practice of asana (postures) and pranayama (breathwork). We will explore simple and fun ways to incorporate yoga into your daily routine. This hatha yoga practice is in the Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions with emphasis on body alignment, strength, and flexibility. Breathwork focuses on reducing stress while oxygenating the blood and improving the overall health of body and mind. Modifications are incorporated to give the practitioner the best possible yoga experience without compromising the body’s structure.
There will be two yoga sessions per day, allowing plenty of time for relaxation and enjoying each other’s company. Evening discussions often cover the Eight Limbs of Yoga, The History of Yoga, or Pranayama.
Melanie Whittaker, RYT, was introduced to yoga 30 years ago; her instruction centers on teachings of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. Yoga Alliance–certified and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Melanie has students in age from 5 to 92, including individuals with injuries and chronic illness, or who are recovering from surgery.
