EXPLORING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SPIRITUAL LANDSCAPE: A WEEKEND SYMPOSIUM

May 15-18 (Thursday dinner - Sunday lunch) The Pacific Northwest has always held an evocative and deep spiritual resonance for people who call the region home. This region, broadly defined as the territory encompassed by the Fraser and Columbia Rivers and their tributaries, lies next to the great Pacific Ocean and includes flowing rivers, sagebrush plateaus, restless volcanoes and great mountain ranges, unique vegetative and animal species, island communities and the major population centers of Vancouver, BC, Seattle, and Portland.

This program offers an in-depth exploration of how the spiritual landscape of the region informs the human experience of living here, as well as an exploration of how we can interact with and in turn inform the spiritual energies of the region.

Through presentations, workshops, evocative evening programs, panel discussions, and informal mealtime conversation, this exciting weekend will bring together presenters and participants to explore ways of effectively standing in close relationship with the living essence of the land and its inhabitants.

Antoinette BotsfordAntoinette Botsford, mythologist and educator, is known for native North American tales representing the lineage of the traditional peoples of the region as well as stories inspired by the experience of her transplanted Canadian Metis elders, who farmed along the Columbia and Yakima rivers during the 20th century. Her portrait of Sacagawea, created as part of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, focuses on the teachings of land and spirit as revealed in tales of the cultures encountered by Sacagawea during her lifetime. www.StoryBird.us

FILLING BELLIES, FEEDING SOULS: HOW TO CONNECT TO OUR FOOD SYSTEM

May 29 - June 1 (Thursday dinner - Sunday lunch) In our ever- busier lives, we have truly lost the connection to our sustenance. Not that long ago, most people did not buy all their food neatly wrapped from the grocery store or superstore. What we eat should do more than fill our bellies, it should feed our souls. But without any REAL connection to our food chain, how can this happen? This program will allow for dialogue and learning about how we can, in gratitude, connect to our nourishment. Using discussion, gardening, kitchen "creation time," and Elizabeth McNannaymovement, we will learn to reconnect with this important part of our lives. We will discuss in detail the agro-industrial machine (including organics) and talk about true bioregionalism, including the roles of alternative building materials and biofuels.

Elizabeth McNannay is currently a farmer and rancher. She works within the agricultural community to find resources for small farmers/growers/producers through business development work and grant writing. A longtime head cook at Indralaya, she has also previously owned a restaurant and occasionally caters events.
