BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE THERAPEUTIC TOUCH

Therapeutic Touch (TT) workshops were first offered at Camp Indralaya in 1977. Since that time, this healing technique has become increasingly accepted in hospitals and clinics throughout North America, in addition to being taught in many universities. TT is currently practiced and taught in over 90 countries around the world. A substantial body of research backs up the clinical wisdom that TT promotes healing in a large variety of physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges.

May 1-4 (Thursday dinner - Sunday lunch) This program is for lay people, nursing students, nurses new to the profession, and healthcare providers new to the practice of Therapeutic Touch (TT). Participants will learn and practice the steps of TT, learn about current uses of TT with various clinical populations, and learn about TT research. Intermediate students will work to enhance their practice with small-group practice and experiences to deepen their understanding of the Therapeutic Touch process.

Susan Wager is a physician who lives and works in Seattle. Dr. Wager learned Therapeutic Touch in 1982, when she was an Internal Medicine resident at New York University Medical Center. She has taught Therapeutic Touch since 1985, and studied for many years with Dora Kunz and Dr. Dolores Krieger, the originators of the technique. Dr. Wager also has an MA in Counseling Psychology, and presently has a private psychotherapy practice where she works with patients who have medical illness. She is also on the clinical faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she participates in teaching an Introduction to Clinical Medicine course for first-year students. Dr. Wager is the co-coordinator of a Therapeutic Touch healing group that meets twice monthly at the Theosophical Society in Seattle. Her special interests are in counseling and Therapeutic Touch for patients with serious medical illness, and for the dying.

Sandra Revesz, RN, LMP, BA, first learned Therapeutic Touch in 1977. She studied with Dora Kunz and Dolores Krieger starting in 1982, the same year she became a licensed massage practitioner. She continues to learn and teach TT, using it extensively in her massage practice. She has taught both massage and TT to health professionals, lay persons, patients, and their families. Sandy also helped to start the massage program at Virginia Mason Medical Center in 1995. She continues to work as an RN, currently in Urology at Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle. She loves to hike, ski, kayak, and hang out with her family.

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

This program is appropriate for students at a variety of stages in their development, for both healthcare professionals and lay TT therapists. This includes those who have recently taken a 12-hour Basic TT course, those who have completed the Intermediate- level course, and the more advanced/intermediate students who would like to deepen their understanding of the finer aspects of Therapeutic Touch.

Contact hours for this continuing nursing education activity has been submitted to the Washington State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Please contact Kathy Wilmering at seachange@katharinewilmering.com for more information about contact hours.

June 8-14 (Sunday dinner - Saturday breakfast) Do you want to take your Therapeutic Touch practice to the next level? Do you want to receive individual attention from an experienced Therapeutic Touch teacher? The Mentorship Program is an opportunity to do just that. The intent of this program is to provide supportive mentoring relationships for TT therapists as they begin to deepen their own understanding of Therapeutic Touch as a transpersonal act of healing based on compassion for others.

Those of you in the early days of your TT practice may be experiencing some difficulties in grasping the scope and potential depth TT holds for you. An intermediate student might be feeling, "Now that I've gotten myself into this, where am I going? I know that I do know some things, and I also know that it isn't enough." The more advanced student may wonder if he or she has reached this point in development by some kind of inertia and may feel a concern that others are now expecting him or her to take on some responsibility. Questions may be arising such as: How did I get here? Am I worthy? How do I find and pursue the threads of my own development?

The Mentorship program is here to help you with these questions. Come and join us for this intensive week, which will include daily clinical TT sessions, individual and group presentations, and seminars with Dr. Krieger and the other faculty. The goal of the mentor is to answer your personal questions regarding your TT practice and to facilitate the deepening of your TT process. Working in small groups, with six students per mentor, provides a rich opportunity to look beyond the techniques of TT and explore the depths of the interior journey that is an integral aspect of the practice. The natural setting of Indralaya supports your process, offering forest trails for walking, swimming along the shoreline, an open meadow for a variety of recreations, and evening campfires surrounded by guardian trees of century-old Douglas fir, madrona, western red cedar, and other great trees. Come and join us. Let us grow together!

Your experienced TT mentor will be under the guidance of Dr. Dolores Krieger and Julie Benkofsky-Webb. The program content will be individualized on the basis of the mentors' expertise, and mentors will be matched with students based upon their applications.

"Therapeutic Touch is only partially about healing others. Equally - perhaps even more importantly - it is about an inner journey. It is important to acknowledge that the empowerment in Therapeutic Touch comes through the TT therapist's quest for a liaison with the Inner Self." Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN

HEALEES: For over 30 years, healees/patients have been an integral part of the Therapeutic Touch programs at Indralaya. A supportive and educational group process is designed specifically for those attending either of the June TT programs as healees/patients. In addition to daily Therapeutic Touch sessions, the healee program will include some of the following: yoga, relaxation training, music therapy tools, group discussion, and time for rest, all in a relaxed and restorative environment. Healees may apply to attend either or both weeks.

CONTINUING EXPLORATIONS INTO TT THEORY AND PRACTICE: AN INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED-LEVEL WORKSHOP

This program is for persons in the health field and other committed TT therapists who are treating people regularly and are prepared to go into greater depth regarding techniques, theory, and the exploration of healing dynamics, including the role of the inner self. We also welcome applications from serious intermediate-level students who have completed at least one intermediate- level workshop and have been practicing regularly for at least a year.

June 17-23 (Tuesday dinner - Monday breakfast) We invite you to join us as we continue the deepening of both the personal journey in TT and our clinical practice. You are encouraged to bring your questions and to share your clinical experience. The daily seminars with Dee Krieger provide a special opportunity for exploration and growth. Qualified therapists will facilitate small-group clinical sessions followed by inclusive group discussion. The program includes seminars with Dee Krieger and presentations by participants. This varied format gives participants the opportunity to meet and work with other experienced TT therapists and a large variety of patients. This sharing of ideas with knowledgeable peers is a major part of what makes the program a rich experience.

For additional information or an application, please call Molly Roberts at 360-376-6333 (email: ttinfo@indralaya.com)

Dolores (Dee) Krieger, PhD, RN, is the co-founder, with Dora Kunz, of Therapeutic Touch. After 35 years, TT continues to be at the frontier of exploration into the healing process. Participants in the mentoring and advanced programs have a unique opportunity to spend time with Dee, in a setting that enhances the TT experience on all levels. Students of Therapeutic Touch are encouraged to join colleagues in gathering together with this master teacher, whose inquiring mind, depth of experience and understanding, and delightful humor make each program an unforgettable event.

Julie Benkofsky-Webb, BS, LMT, Program Coordinator, has been teaching Therapeutic Touch since 1991. A Qualified TT Teacher with Nurse Healers-Professional Associates (NH-PAI), she is a former editor of the NH-PAI newsletter, "The Cooperative Connection." Julie says that teaching TT has been one of the joys of her life - and this has only increased with her role as program coordinator, which she began in 2002. She maintains a private massage practice in Hawaii.
